This weekend, it was announced that the upcoming episode of KBS's "Star Life Theater" would feature an inside look at the college lives of Girls' Generation's Yuri, Sooyoung, and Seohyun. The program also teased fans with some of the facts to be revealed on the episode, heightening excitement for the broadcast. The episode's premiere on Monday naturally attracted attention from Korean media and the netizens for its portrayal of the girls as "normal" college students.
Sooyoung and Yuri both major in Theater and Film at Chungang University, and the program showed them attending classes together, taking notes, and having a meal inside a car due to their overloaded schedules. “We want to be like any other normal student who studies," The two confessed. “When we don’t have classes, we want to walk around the school without any thoughts and get something to eat on the way...We want to do the same things that regular students do at our age."
Viewers also saw Seohyun, a theater major at Dongkook University, eat and converse informally with her friends (As the youngest, she uses formal speech with other Girls' Generation members), who know her as Seo Joohyun. After a male classmate asked about 2NE1's new album, she asked, "Did you buy our album?", showing how comfortable she felt among her peers.
"Seohyun has a much bigger desire for higher education when compared to her peers," said Shin Yeonsup, a professor from Dongkook University's Theater Department. "She has a serious attitude...Her attitude on learning is so honest that it’s even old-fashioned. I think she believes that school takes a higher precedence over entertainment activities. I am proud.”
