The term for rising surge and spread of the Korean pop culture, “Hallyu” was recently used in President Barack Obama’s speech. President Obama recently visited Seoul, South Korea for the second Nuclear Security Summit that took place on March 26th and 27th. Along with leaders from more than 50 other nations, the global summit aims to fight nuclear terrorism.
Before launching into the review of his nuclear weapons policy, President Obama listed the most popular social networking systems in Korea – me2day and Kakao Talk, demonstrating his knowledge of foreign cultures. He praised young Koreans, stating they were full of promise and were highly tech savvy.
In his remarks, he stated, "It’s no wonder so many people around the world have caught the Korean Wave." No matter what the challenge, "we go together," Obama said as he closed his remarks with the Korean translation, "Katchi kapshida!"
