The Japanese right-wing media sources are continuously criticizing Kim Tae Hee, currently playing the lead role in Fuji TV’s Me and My Star’s 99 Days.
One of the right-wing weekly magazines reported, “Kim Tae Hee is receiving special treatment such as being respected in the most honorary term, ‘Kim Tae Hee Sama.’ After seeing the drama’s viewer ratings, people are wondering if Kim Tae Hee is really needed in the drama.”
According to the magazine, Kim Tae Hee’s hotel is N hotel, which is Tokyo’s five-star hotel. On the same floor, there are also rooms for Kim Tae Hee’s personal trainer and staffs. This is criticized for being extravagant because Japanese broadcasting companies have recently been reducing their production costs to a tenth. Other actors in the drama complained, “I heard she gets paid differently from us.”
It seems such criticisms are caused by her words and actions such as claiming sovereignty over Dokdo. Kim Tae Hee visited Switzerland in 2005 with her brother Lee Wan and participated in the Love Dokdo Campaign as an honorary ambassador for Switzerland. In addition to this, as the scene where Dokdo was marked as Dakeshima caused controversy, the staffs deleted the scene and explained, “it happened during the graphic work.” As a result, the write-wing media sources came to feel uncomfortable with Kim Tae Hee’s Dokdo love.
It is hard to see the low ratings of the drama have been caused by Kim Tae Hee. Me and My Star’s 99 Daysdisplayed viewer rantings of 10.2% for its first episode and 9.7% for the second. This is not so bad, but the media sources are saying the ratings went down in the second episode because of Kim Tae Hee.
This drama is airing at the same time slot with the Antarctic Continent, a drama of Japanese top celebrity Kimura Takuya. Besides, considering the fact that its predecessor You Are Beautiful Season 2 struggled from low ratings as it once fell to 6%, some people in Japan are saying it is ridiculous to say that the low ratings of the first few episodes are caused by Kim Tae hee.
