Supernova talks with VOGUE Japan regarding their time in the country

After the announcement of leader Yoonhak’s enlistment was made, the group’s fanbase went through an emotional shock. Japan’s VOGUE magazine interviewed the group before the leader’s enlistment in late October and will publish a photoshoot with the popular group in their last issue for 2011.

Jihyuk, who is known as the group’s mood maker, as well as Kwangsu both thanked the crew from VOGUE for the opportunity.

Supernova debuted in Japan in 2009, after a failed debut in Korea two years earlier. While their leader is known for being fluent in Japanese due to studying and graduating from Aichi University, the whole group improved their language skills over the years. They gained much popularity throughout during the two years and have even been mentioned as the second popular and most known male Korean group in Japan after TVXQ.

After consulting with his fellow members, Yoonhak decided to announce the news during their fan meeting in Japan. During the concert’s encore song, their Japanese debut track, the members struggled one-by-one and when Yoonhak saw a placard by a fan, "We will be standing with Supernova," he felt embarrassed.

"We made our debut in Korea in 2007, but that was a failure. We didn’t know what would happen to us when we decided to have activities in Japan. I have always been glad to come to Japan. And in Japan each of us has made our dreams come true. It has also been our dream to be in VOGUE," Yoonhak stated further.

Though the group was noted to have been happy with what they received in the two short years, they still haven’t been able to achieve their ultimate goal of getting a number one on Oricon yet. Member Sungje mentioned, "The difference is that in Korea we haven’t had any luck while in Japan we have never failed." Yoonhak also added, "We had a taste of failure so we know how important the fans are. I always feel the importance to get close to the fans when we do the live tours. I will never forget this feeling of gratefulness we got in the beginning, even when we are more popular now."

Having returned to Korea after their Japanese fanmeet, the group was also asked about their future and brought some interesting replies. Kwangsu mentioned that he’d like to set up a clothing brand and interior design company, while other members were more interested in an acting career. Sungje was quoted having said, "I would like to become a better artist and go to an acting school." Member Sungmo surprised many by replying he’s good in martial arts, and had dreams of becoming a known action star in Asia. Mood maker Jihyuk went as far as to say that he’d love to write a book someday after the age of 50.

Yoonhak previously said that he had tried approaching music companies in Japan before the group's Japanese debut, and had come back, asking if he could take along his fellow Supernova members. "It is here that the members have found their dreams come true. They have tried to coordinate with several media companies from Japan, Korea, China and other parts of Asia just to attain this goal," he said.

Yodogawa Miyoko, editor for GINZA and ANAN magazine, personally gave her take on Supernova’s career saying that they improved their language skills over the years they’ve been in the country. She ended the interview by adding a message for the group’s leader stating, "Yoonhak, all the members and the fans are waiting for you to comeback in Japan as soon as possible."

The group will now be temporarily halting Japanese activities because of their leader’s enlistment. They will pick up their Korean and Japanese career next year with group as well as individual activities.
